Tallinn Music Week 2013 delegates’ registration is now open

The delegates’ registration for Tallinn Music Week 2013 is now open at www.tmw.ee, the special earlybird offer for the delegate’s pass runs until 1st of December. The artists’ application round will kick off on 1st of October.

The fifth edition of Tallinn Music Week festival will take place on 4-6 April 2013.

Tallinn Music Week is a music industry conference and one of the biggest indoor festivals in the Baltic region that started out in 2009. The festival welcomes around 300 international and 300 local music industry delegates each year and the next festival edition will present a line-up of around 170 artists from Estonia and neighbouring countries, so it is a perfect weekend to visit early springtime Tallinn during three nights full of good music in Tallinn’s best venues for the most demanding tastes: from folk and jazz to punk and electro, from classical music to metal and anything in between.

Tallinn Music Week 2012 in numbers:

183 artists from 13 countries

150 artists from Estonia

11 200 visitors

589 delegates, of whom 283 from Estonia

306 international delegates

61 549 unique homepage visits from 103 countries

Helienne Lindvall, The Guardian:

“Tallinn Music Week suggested the Baltic States would be the next region to burst on to the European music scene. It was clear right from the start that last week’s Tallinn Music Week was not your ordinary music festival – and Estonia not your average country.”

Adam Harper, Wire Magazine:

“Tallinn Music Week has proven that a country as small as Estonia punches well above its weight in terms of musical talent. TMW was a thought-provoking window on music-making culture not just in and around Estonia, but as regards the rest of the world too.”

Ville Kipeläinen, Fullsteam Agency (FIN):

“After 4 years, Tallinn Music Week is already among the top 5 showcase festivals in the world, which is an amazing accomplishment in itself. Secondly, the Estonian music scene has leapfrogged past most European countries as one of the most exciting sources of emerging talent. Tallinn Music Week is a productive and enjoyable event that just keeps getting better and better.”

Martin Elbourne, The Great Escape (UK):

“I thought the level of organization and hospitality Tallinn Music Week provided was superb. Tallinn’s concert venues were great. It was one of the most enjoyable conference showcase events I have been to (and I have been to a few!).”

Welcome to TMW 2013!

Ewert and The Two Dragons is a folk-rock quartet from Tallinn. Since their sophomore album Good Man Down (I Love You Records, 2011) was released to great reviews, the band’s fame has spread like a blaze, garnering them airplay from France to Brazil, and festival dates all over the world. It also became the best-selling record of the year in Estonia and the band was nominated and won five Estonian Music Awards in 2012. They have performed at important music industry festivals like Popkomm (Germany), Waves Vienna (Austria), Eurosonic Festival (Holland) and Lost In Music (Finland).

Iiris

Saturday, 22nd September, 20:00-20:40 at Pooca bar

www.iirismusic.com

After a storming gig at Tallinn Music Week 2010, Iiris had the festival buzzing after her "especially good performance" (MusikWoche). An artist born to be on stage, wherever Iiris has performed, audiences and critics alike have been left in awe, resulting in highly positive coverage from MTV Iggy, Reykjavik Grapevine, NME, Soundi anf Nutflicks.

Her sound has been compared to greats like Björk, Kate Bush, Regina Spektor and Florence & The Machine, but Iiris remains unique. Her performances veer between aggressively commanding the stage and baring it all from behind the piano, and audiences can’t help but surrender to her talent & beauty.

Debut album "The Magic Gift Box" is out on EMI Music Finland since March 2012.

Prāta Vētra

Saturday, 22nd September, 21:15-22:00 at Pooca bar

www.pratavetra.lv

After Prāta Vētra conquered the hearts of music lovers in native Latvia and became a household name, the band took a chance on reaching the audiences beyond the borders of their motherland. Prāta Vētra during their career have released albums in Europe and Russia, supported bands like “R.E.M.”, “The Rolling Stones”, “Depeche Mode”, e.t.c.. As A.Corbijn has described: “There is this beautiful thing that great bands have something… Identity and I think Prāta Vētra has that,”

New album „Another Still Life“ (BrainStorm Records, 2012) was written and recorded in the historic town of Hudson, in the Hudson valley upstate NY, and was mixed in a small studio beneath Radiohead's management office in Oxford, England.

Eesti folkpunkbänd Legshaker kutsuti Saksamaa festivalile

Hoogsate esinemistega ja esikalbumiga "Maksmata võlad" mullu muusikataevasse kerkinud folkpunkansambel Legshaker sõidab Saksamaale. Bänd kutsuti mängima mainekale Transvocale festivalile Frankfurt Oderis.

"Meie jaoks oli see pakkumine ikka väga ootamatu. Ausalt öeldes olime päris üllatunud ja päris õhevil," lausub trummar Meelis Juss. On ka põhjust, sest Transvocale festivalile kutsus Legshakeri esinema Saksamaa kõige mainekam folgifestivali TFF Rudolstdt programmijuht Bernhard Hanneken, kes on ka kaheksandat korda toimuva Transvocale peakorraldaja.

Transvocale pole esimene kord kui Legshaker raja taha esinema kutsutakse. Laulja Tarmo Tamm meenutab: "Sel suvel käisime Helsingis Pax festivalil, kuhu kutsus meid peale Tallinn Music Weekil nähtud kontserti estofiil Pekka Honkonen"

Aga muidu? "Praegu töötame uue materjali kallal ja oktoobris on oodata ka uut singlit," leidub Eestis kiirelt nõutud kontsertansambliks saanud Legshakeri mahti ka uute lugude kallal töötamiseks.

Raadio Kahe kaudu laiema publiku teadvusse jõudnud Legshakeri omaloominguline folkpunk on kangem kärakas kui nende sõprusbändiks saanud Kukerpillide "pätikantri", omades analooge mujal maailmas, kuid mitte Eestis. Ansambli potentsiaali esimesena ära tundnud DJ ning etnoloog, doktorikraadiga pungiuurija Aimar Ventsel on võrrelnud Legshakerit maailma folkpungi lipulaevadega nagu Flogging Molly või The Pogues.

Tallinn Music Week koos Tiit Kikase ja Sasha Pepeljajeviga Berlin Music Weekil

Tiit Kikas

Alates kunagisest menuansamblist Folkmill kuni koostööprojektini „Suurte Sõjamasinate muusika“ koos ansambliga No Big Silence Leigo järvemuusikal. Koosseisudest tasuvad märkimist Dagö,  Justament, Jääboiler, Tulli Lum ja Vägilased.

Sasha Pepeljajev on Venemaalt pärit rohkelt rahvusvahelist tunnustust kogunud tantsuteatri koreograaf ja visuaalide kunstnik, kelle videokunsti on ka Eesti publikul olnud võimalik näha mitmetes lavastustes, alates Von Krahli teatri lavastuses “Hamletid” aastal 2006.

Kontsert Berliinis toimub 5. septembril algusega kl 19:30 The NMO & Hype Machine showcase’il Berliini uues ja populaarses 70ndate hõngulises tantsubaaris Tante Emma (Köpenicker Straße 1A). Link Berliinis toimuvale kontserdile: http://www.berlin-music-week.de/en/events/artists/tiit-kikas/.

Berlin Music Week on 2010. aastal alguse saanud mitmehaardeline muusikafestival, mis pakub muusikatööstuse professionaalidele ja fännidele üle kogu linna toimuvaid kontserte, klubiõhtuid ja rahvusvahelisi messiüritusi. Koostöös Tallinn Music Weekiga toimuvat Tiidu ja Sasha osalemist Berlin Music Weekil toetavad Eesti Kultuuriministeerium ja Eesti Muusika Eksport.
